CZ = gemstone?
This stand-in for diamonds is a man-made single crystal made of zirconium dioxide. Its radiance is in no way inferior to that of diamonds and makes jewellery sparkle elegantly.
‘Cubic zirconia’ is simply abbreviated to ‘CZ’ in English.
Cubic zirconia vs. crystals
Each stone is different and requires special handling. Adhesives are used to secure crystals in jewellery, while settings are used for CZ.
What about ‘Mohs’?
The degree of hardness is based on the scale that Friedrich Mohs developed. At a hardness of almost ‘8.5’, cubic zirconia (CZ) is similarly as hard as diamonds, which are ‘10’.

Zircon and CZ out-sparkle each other
But what sets them apart – is it really just the spelling? Zircon is actually one of the oldest natural gemstones; it’s made of zirconium silicate. CZ, on the other hand, is man-made in laboratories.
Art from the laboratory
Many beautiful stones are created artificially. Examples include CZ, lab-created spinel and lab-created corundum – a nature-friendly option that delivers on aesthetics.
